The Precariat Class of Samara

Precariat?! Merge precarious with proletariat and you get the Precariat Class

The UK suddenly has a precariat class.
We’re not alone of course, the precariat class has been emerging in advanced societies for years now.

But the UK’s traditional class structure is so out of date, it’s been re-jigged to make it more accurate. This involves making up names for the seven classes of people created. Naming something brings it into existence. Imagine the shock of thousands of folk suddenly finding out that this is who they really are:
Class Test

* “I’m middle class. I was so surprised, I nearly dropped my focaccia.”
* “Bow, peasants… I’ve just found out I’m in the Elite group in Britain’s new class system”
* “Broke and cultured?! Just found out I’m in the Technical Middle Class group in Britain’s new class system. “
* “I’m a disabled Precariat, which means I have a condition of existence without predictability or security. Lucky me!”

via #WhatsYourClass on Twitter

You get the picture.

Valmont & TourvelleWe’ve now got seven classes instead of the original three, (upper, middle and working); with the privileged Elite sitting upon its massive wealth at the top. (Although if they’ve any sense, they’ll be re-distributing it to benefit others ~ which is karmically how they got that wealth to begin with.)

“For us to be happy,
there has to be internal change.

it’s our attitude we have to change.”

Sounds reasonable, like wearing shoes instead of trying to cover the world in asphalt. But how do we do it?

Get a realistic view of our world

Not some Disney fantasy of how it should be.
The world we live in is painful. Geshe Kelsang likens it to trying to get comfortable living in a thorn bush. This is the nature of our samsara, the endless cycle of dissatisfaction and pain we’re all stuck in.

Shih Tsu Happens

So relax and stop fighting it.
Our natural human response to fear is to avoid it. I am asking you to look straight at it, feel the feeling, and lean into it instead of away from it.
Terri Cole (via yogachocolatelove)

“Be empowered by this wisdom” Kadam Bridget

Knowing and using this wisdom enables us to cope and deal with our problems.
Our lives are full of endless difficulties.
At the end of the day we can just feel broken sometimes, can’t we.” Bridget
Patient acceptance can dissolve these negative, disempowering feelings away, and in doing so evaporate painful situations. This allows us progress in our lives in a pro-active way. Accepting difficulties with a patient mind, is far from passive, it is taking a “very strong, active stance.” Geshe Kelsang

Happy Heruka Day!

25th Jan is Heruka Day :)
A good day to meditate on universal compassion and the fact that nothing exists outside of our mind.

Geshe Kelsang Gyatso, Buddha Avalokiteshvara

Wisdom and Compassion

“At present our mind is obscured by the inner darkness of ignorance, which prevents us from seeing the true nature of all phenomena; but by training in wisdom and compassion we can completely remove this inner darkness.”

Essence of Vajrayana, Geshe Kelsang

Wisdom understands emptiness. Emptiness is how things exist. “Emptiness is not nothingness but is the real nature of phenomena.” Geshe_Kelsang
Everything lacks its own, inherent existence. This is the ultimate nature of phenomena. Everything comes from the mind, and even that doesn’t exist from it’s own side. It’s all just a mental fabrication. (Not so far away from the Matrix and its constructs in the movie. Geek fact – the Matrix was based on the ‘mind only’ Chittamatrin view of emptiness.)

Compassion is not wanting others to suffer. Unbiased compassion“is not just for human beings but for every living being, including animals.Geshe Kelsang. That’s all animals as well, even if they’re not cute. However many legs they have.

Tantra is pure. (In Heruka’s case Highest Yoga Tantra, and for Avalokiteshvara it’s Action Tantra.)  It’s about creating pure lands, inhabited by pure beings – us!
If done right, the Buddhist practice of Tantra is the quickest and best path to achieving an enlightened state.

All this promotes a peaceful, therefore happy, mind for ourselves and others.

Who is Heruka?

Heruka Chakrasambhara

Heruka is a wrathful deity.
He is Tantric compassion.
He is great bliss and the true nature of reality, which is emptiness.

He is powerful and completely pure.
Meditating on Heruka enables us to gain freedom from our current state of suffering, and to liberate others. This is a practice that can be beneficial now in our everyday lives; and become the cause of us being able to free all beings to the ultimate peace of great enlightenment.

- Great Bliss and Emptiness respectively. I’ve included the pink lotuses and the fish to represent love, purity and harmony. Tantra allows these qualities to grow in our minds, and so in our world.

Kadampa Ryan gives some good insights into the practice of Heruka on his blog.

Breathing Meditation by Gen Tarchin

To take an effective break, you just need to let go for awhile.
Put your thoughts on hold.

Just sit back, close your eyes and let go.
Whatever you were thinking about just then will wait for 5 or 10 minutes.

Follow your breath for awhile and come back refreshed.
Let the yogi Gen Tarchin tell us how…

* • .¸

GenTarchin @ Tharpaland

☆ *  ’

“Sit in a relaxed comfortable position, with your back as straight as possible without being uncomfortable or tense.

And now scan through you body, looking at all the different parts of your body, one at a time, to make sure they’re comfortable and relaxed, free from tension or strain.
If you find any areas of tension, relax them.

And now turn your attention to the subtle sensation at the tip of your nostrils, or perhaps just inside your nostrils [or even on your lips], associated with each inhalation, each exhalation of the breath.

For a few moments, notice the slightly cooler sensation associated with the inhalation; and the slightly warming sensation, or pressure, associated with the exhalation.”

In this way, just observe the subtle tactile sensation of the breath for a few minutes.

Taken from the first 3 minutes of a meditation given by Gen Kelsang Tarchin, fully qualified meditation master, at MKMC in 2011.
